Camp Program Coordinator

This position is the lead programmer and facilitator for programs that serve at-risk youth and families in the camp and wilderness context, with primary focus during summer months on day and overnight camps. Should be an individual who is able to anticipate and meet the needs of campers and their caregivers with a superior customer service attitude. This person will play a key role in recruiting, training, and supporting of seasonal and part-time camp staff and interns. They will also be a part of the year-round Camp and Retreat Center leadership and facilitation team to oversee relevant activity areas, help develop programs, and serve and facilitate with other guests at the Camp and Retreat Center. Applicant must be able and willing to sleep in camp accommodations, participate in and/or lead wilderness backpacking trips, carry pack with all gear, walk up to 10 miles per day and sleep in a tent in a wilderness enviroment.

  • Have a valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving record
  • Have certification or be able to become certified in Wilderness First Responder, American Red Cross Life Guard and/or Life Guard Instructor, and high adventure facilitation

A Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least one year of camp leadership experience. Training or experience with population served, wilderness programming and knowledge of camp licensing requirements are preferred. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist able to supervise interns is also preferred.
