Dear Prayer Partners,

“Pastor Eric, I’ve been reading the Bible you gave me every morning.”

It was like music to my ears to hear that the simple, paperback Bible we had given this young resident the week before, was doing more than gathering dust in her room. After coming to Eagle Village, she had attended a Bible study for, perhaps, the first time in her life, and was now using her time here to develop a new personal habit of reading God’s Word.

Since beginning my ministry here at Eagle Village just over a month ago, I’ve been encouraged nearly every day by the openness of our residents and staff to God’s Word. In chapel, we’ve been studying the life of Jesus, and what it means to be his followers. In Young Life, Corey Juliano has begun a semester-long study of the book of John. The residents of Sherk House asked if we could start a weekly (or more frequent) Bible Study to be held in their house. And all around campus there are discussions among staff of the daily readings from the Jesus Calling devotional.

“And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13

There is a clear sense that the word of God is indeed at work here in the lives of residents and staff alike. During the month of February, would you join me in praying throughout the week for this seed of God’s word to take root in many lives?

  • MONDAY, pray for our staff as they begin their week. Pray for the word of God to be at work in and through them as they serve our residents, foster children, and families.
  • TUESDAY, pray for our Chapel services and Young Life programs, that they would connect the word of God deeply with the lives of our staff and residents. Chapel and Young Life alternate every Tuesday at 4pm.
  • WEDNESDAY, pray for the residents of Sherk House, as we begin regular Bible studies in their house this week. Pray that the word of God would transform their hearts, minds, and attitudes.
  • THURSDAY, pray for the residents in the Intervention Center, who have Bible study every Thursday morning at 10am.
  • FRIDAY, pray for the residents who receive new Bibles when they arrive at Eagle Village, that they would find hope and healing in personal times of reading God’s word. Bibles are typically given out on Tuesdays at 5pm, and Friday mornings.

Of course, we recognize that the ministry of Eagle Village would not be possible without your prayers and support and God’s power at work. If you’re praying regularly for the ministry here, I’d love to know!

God Bless!

Eric Woods, Pastor
