Dear Prayer Partners,

“Pastor Eric, can I have a new Bible please? Mine tore in half.”

I chuckled a bit at the thought of it, and then asked her how it had happened.

“Oh,” she told me, “It’s just getting worn out from use.”

To be fair, it is a paperback edition… but it sure was an encouragement to know that her Bible was getting so much use that it wore right in half.

In high school I participated both on- and off-stage in theatrical productions like Fiddler on the Roof and The Wizard of Oz. It was always fun to see the transformation in each production from the script—just words on a page—into a living experience on stage.

A Bible lays open to the Gospel of John

Over the next 8 weeks in Chapel, we will be diving in to the Gospel of John together. In the first few verses, John refers to Jesus Christ as the word. In Greek, it’s the word logos, which literally means a word that is uttered by a living voice.

I’ve invited our residents and staff to read along through John over the next couple of months, and my prayer is that God’s word would come to life for each of them, and that they would experience it as more than just words on a page, but a living and transformational message from a God who loves them.

Who knows… maybe more of them will need to replace their worn out Bibles.
