Prayer. I heard a pastor and leader from the church call it – “The language of heaven”. I love that. We can know with certainty that when we pray, we are speaking God’s language. Our petitions and praise don’t fall on deaf ears. Our God is the one who, as scripture tells us, never sleeps nor slumbers. Think about that – God hears us.

So, we pray recognizing that prayer is never wasted. It isn’t filling time or space – it matters. And although posture helps at times, we don’t have to kneel or stand to pray. Paul tells us to “pray non-stop”. So we do, believing that God notices when we pray. Thank you for praying with and for the Village Dwellers this week. Oh, and don’t miss the “Impactful Moment” each week at the end of the note where we share a brief story of the ways God is at work in the Village.

Monday, September 2: This is a long weekend and though for many it provides a day off, it can add extra stress to families that are fostering youth. Would you think and pray for them today, recognizing that a day off for many of us becomes a work-day for some.

Lyrics from Firm Foundation (He Won’t)

Christ is my firm foundation
The rock on which I stand
Everything around me is shaken
I’ve never been more glad

Tuesday, September 3: Pray for our residential direct care staff that are in college, that God give them balance and energy as they study, work, and play.

I put my faith in Jesus
‘Cause He’s never let me down
He’s faithful through generations
So why would He fail now?

Wednesday, September 4: Pray for chapel this morning as the Village Dwellers worship together. We’ll sing, pray, and hear a story from one of our staff about the difference God has made in their lives. Our hope is as we listen, we will also believe God can make a difference in ours, as well.

He won’t! He won’t!

He won’t fail, He won’t fail.

He won’t.

Thursday, September 5: Pray for our forensic interview team at our Child Advocacy Center as they provide a safe space for youth to tell their story as they navigate difficult situations.

Rain came and wind blew
But my house was built on You
I’m safe with You
I’m gonna make it
Oh, I’m gonna make it through
‘Cause I’m standing strong on You
Oh, I’m gonna make it through
‘Cause my house is built on You

Friday, September 6: Pray for our maintenance crew. They work tirelessly to make sure the Village is safe, clean, and in working order.

Christ is my firm foundation
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken
I’ve never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus
‘Cause He’s never let me down
He’s faithful through generations
So why would He fail now?

Weekend, September 7 & 8: Pray for our on-call team that will work all weekend providing support to keep our youth and staff active and safe.

He won’t, He won’t
He won’t fail, He won’t fail

He won’t, He won’t
He won’t fail, He won’t fail

He won’t!

Impactful Moment: We are finishing a series in chapel called, Being Real. We believe the way to experience life is only found in a restored relationship with God in Christ, and how we become, like it says in The Velveteen Rabbit, Real. During one of our recent, optional chapel services, our theme was freedom in Christ and two of our youth asked our staff to pray for God to forgive them for their sins. And we believe he did, evidence that God is working to redeem everyone, all the time, everywhere. God hears us when we pray.
